In the Business world, measures have picked up all sorts of labels, such as
KPIs (Key Performance Indicators),
KRAs (Key Result Areas) and
CSFs (Critical Success Factors) but few people understand that measures are not the means by which management control employees.
Smart organisations know that proper measures serve only one purpose - to act as the organisation's success signposts.
Further, smart organisations know that the Scorecards that list these signposts must be as relevant to each individual employee, as they are to the highest ranking leadership team in the
organisation, otherwise they don't simply lose relevance, they can be damaging.
