Grant Hyman's book “A Practical Guide to Selling” is a must have for any serious business owner's bookshelf. The perspectives Grant shares in his book will not only help you on the way to sell more effectively, but also in better purchasing. By understanding both sides of the buying/selling dynamic; this book will inspire you to seek win-win results, not just the superficial “best” price. Uniquely laid out, this book lets you cherry-pick invaluable tips and tricks wherever you are, whatever you're doing. Grab a copy today, keep it handy, and refer to it often. Well done, Grant!
Greg Pritchard – Director – Dedication Group

I’ve known Grant for nearly 20 years and was a colleague for 7 of those years – he was a consistently very high achiever who just did things properly. I expected his book to be very interesting, but it’s more than that – it’s a great refresher for experienced ‘old-timers’ like me as well as ‘must-have’ manual for newer people starting out, or people who have been representatives and want to step up to being genuinely proactive salespeople. Buy it now – it’s one of the smartest investments a salesperson can make in their education and future success!

Hi Grant,
My name is Dale Smith and I've just finished reading your book. I am a photographer, running my own business, and therefore almost completely reliant on sales to make a living. I'm also the president of a small group of 30 professional photographers.
From reading your book, you show your customers respect and care, whilst still achieving the sale - most of the photographers in our group love people, which is why we love photographing them, and is also why we baulk at some of the shallow hard sell techniques we've heard of before. Put simply, we want to be able to sleep at night!
Thank you for your expert, honest and forthright presentation on ethical sales.

This is such a useful and knowledgeable book for those of us who need and want to sell our products or services, but don’t know quite how to go about it or the best approach.
Unlike many sales books, it is not in the least intimidating or “gung-ho”. Grant relates to his readers and their concerns and considerations about selling with wonderful case studies and the book is packed full of humour, wisdom and invaluable information and tips on the various selling techniques and opportunities there are for all types of business situations. A fabulous book to have on the shelf and visit often.

The second book on my desk is Grant Hyman's A Practical Guide To Selling: What they teach at the University of the Pavement. Hyman is an expert in sales, an area that is the cornerstone of most businesses. While you may not have a sales force or even a dedicated sales person, the reality is that if you are a business owner, you must be focused on sales. And if there is no dedicated sales person, then you are IT.
Successful small business entrepreneurs know that they are constantly selling. Hyman doesn't go into esoteric philosophies on sales but gives practical advice on everything from beating the gatekeeper and cold-calling to cross-cultural selling and guerilla marketing.
Valerie Khoo - in her business blog at Fairfax Digital (see Valerie's business blog here)

Successful life-long salespeople are a rarity. Even rarer are those who are prepared to be honest about the secrets of their success.
Grant Hyman has been there, done that, and worn out the shoe leather to prove it. With A Practical Guide to Selling: What they teach at the University of the Pavement, Grant has distilled a stellar thirty-year career in sales into practical and transferable wisdom. This is a remarkable achievement in itself, made all the more so because Grant is so honest and generous with his experiences; the good, the bad, and the ugly. They make fascinating reading.
Today's salespeople - and anyone who works and lives with them - will get tons of value from this book. Walk a mile in Grant's shoes and take a course at the University of the Pavement. Your sales career, and your interactions with salespeople everywhere, will truly benefit.
Robyn Haydon, founder and principal of Winning Words and author of The Shredder Test: the Australian guide to writing winning proposals.

Definitely a must-read and must-have for every salesperson and manager who needs to stay on top of their game!

it is the most "down to earth" book of this type I've ever read. I can relate to so many things you put there.

Grant's book is crammed with wisdom and practical advice that I can easily incorporate into my business. His insights, experience and wisdom have made this book my new work bible, and my growing bank balance is the proof!

I was fortunate enough to have attended Grant's Advanced Sales Workshop and was awarded a copy of his new book ‘A Practical Guide to Selling’.
Knowing Grant personally made reading the book even more interesting, and I found it to be a very easy to use resource guide for any person which touched a lot of relevant life issues. We are all selling in one way or another, and this book is a great little motivator with a useful tips and ideas for everyone. For me it was a wealth of information and a terrific summary of everything I have learnt the hard way.
I am not new to the Real Estate industry, have been trained by some of the best and found Grant’s approach is spot on. Short chapters, a 'to the point' writing style and relevant expressions made it interesting and easy to read.

Good morning Grant,
I have just graduated from "The University of the Pavement".
A great book and I believe it should be compulsory purchase for every business. It is a very practical guide and useful for all new and established salespeople. Even an old horse trader like myself found new and refreshing ideas that I will use in future wheeling and dealing. I loved the piece on after sales service ( should we give 90 days or three months?) and no-one buys a car for $7,000 when they can get it for $6,999. These are the things that make being in business fun!!
I will recommend your book to everyone, as we are all salespeople, regardless of what we do. We sell ourselves to our wives, our girlfriends, the boss, friends and relatives as well as associates.
All the very best for future sales. It should be a real flyer as all companies need new business.
Yours Sincerely,
Bruce Worthington - Director - B & S Worthington Training

I bought copies for my clients and recommend "A Practical Guide to Selling" to everyone!
